The French National Forestry Office (ONF), responsible for the sustainable management of public forests, is tasked with ensuring the long-term health and vitality of France’s forests. Its mission is based on three key pillars: supplying wood to society, protecting the environment, and welcoming the public. Our collaboration with the ONF in Isère focuses specifically on environmental preservation.
The communal forest of Miribel-les-Échelles is heavily affected by climate change. Repeated droughts and rising average temperatures are weakening the trees, particularly firs, and causing increasingly widespread dieback. As natural regeneration is largely insufficient to ensure forest renewal, human intervention is essential.
The main objective is to sustainably restore forest cover through the planting of a diverse range of tree species, such as Atlas cedar, sessile oak, Calabrian pine, and large-leaved lime. These species have been selected for their ability to adapt to current constraints as well as future climate conditions. This initiative will help preserve a habitat that supports local wildlife and plant life, while maintaining a sustainable source of high-quality timber.
In 2024, the SIDAS WORLD Foundation supported the restoration of part of the communal forest through the planting of damaged plots. A total of 2.5 hectares were restored and 2,760 trees were planted.
A five-year follow-up is planned to support the long-term implementation of the project and assess its impact over time.
